These are Days

There are days when homeschooling goes just according to schedule. We do Bible, then Math, then Language, then a little Reading and Writing, and finally Science and/or Social Studies. Then there are days like today. :) I actually wonder if days like today turn out even better. I think a lot of times Allie gets more real learning out of these days than the scheduled ones.

Allie decided months ago that she wanted to own a yogurt shop when she grows up. This morning at breakfast, she asked if she could use the graph paper to map out the yogurt shop, showing the tables, chairs, kitchen, bathrooms, etc. I glanced at the clock and realized we had plenty of time and not too much planned today, so I said of course. Two hours later, Allie had the yogurt shop drawn up "to scale", a full menu complete with drawings, and a business plan complete with job descriptions. I would say she learned a lot during that project. :) My little entrepreneur is always trying to set up a shop and sell something outside. She's done everything from lemonade for 25 cents to jumping rope for a dime to whoever will stop and wants entertaining. :) She will be a wonderful business owner one of these days.

After that she spent an hour or so looking over the ukelele books Grannie gave her and teaching herself how to play the ukelele beautifully. She also pretended to have a picnic with Maggie and taught Penelope how to dance.

We did throw Math and Bible in there for good measure, but I don't think today was a lost day at all. :)

  1. Sounds like a lot of fun for Allie. It also sounds lot like the projects you and Laura used to do with Mrs. McAbee. Lots of learning going on within one project.
