Contractions and Classroom Ideas

So today has been another day full of scary contractions and aches and pains. I felt something weird in Sunday school, like painful pressure on my pelvic bone. I know that makes sense since, there is a baby in there and everything, but I had not felt that before. I couldn't get comfortable in the folding chairs so Brian brought me home to rest. I drank lots of water and stayed pretty much on the couch all afternoon, still getting contractions but not severe or close together, thank the Lord. I will be 35 weeks on Tuesday. I know babies have a good "survival rate" at 35 weeks but I really want her to do more than survive, I want her to thrive. So I'm hoping she stays in there until at least 37 weeks. That's what I'm praying for. Actually I'm praying for not a minute before March 1st, just to be on the safe side. :) I do believe, though, that God knows best, and He will bring her here at just the right time.

The hard part about resting right now is that my nesting instinct has really kicked in! :) I'm not a big-time decorator, mainly because I've never learned the "DIY" secrets and don't have the confidence for it. I have been mainly thinking about two rooms in our house: the classroom and the playroom. The classroom is a wonderfully sized room that could be awesome if given some attention. It's also another playroom and a craft room, with some leftover boxes from when it was the "junk room", though, so it tends to get cluttered. We just got a great big table for the center of the room that gives Allie tons of workspace. There's a white board on the wall, a bookshelf with all her textbooks and folders, etc. There is even an easel and craft area for art. Maggie has a small table down there for coloring and Play-Doh, and a play kitchen that Brian's dad built that is great, but. . . brown. Yuck. I think what I will start with is painting the kitchen a hot pink color. Then I'd like to add a colorful rug, some curtains, and hang the kids' artwork all around. I got a Pottery Barn Kids catalogue in the mail (I still get them from when I worked and had money to actually buy Pottery Barn! HA!), and while I won't be buying the $140 lazy susan with cute flowerpots that hold scissors and crayons, I will be trying that idea for a fraction of the cost. I really want both the classroom downstairs and the playroom upstairs to be functional, but bright, cheerful, and inspiring creativity. Those are my goals. So I will be seeking to tap into my artsy-fartsy side and see what happens. Don't hold me to it next week or anything, since I'm supposed to be "resting" and still need to do lots of things to get ready for Rosemary. But I think by the summer I should have a few bright, cheery rooms to show off.

  1. I'll be praying for you! And let me know if I can be of any help with your decorating! We could just put a couch in the room and you could sit and point. "I want that there, and this one here..." :) I love the lazy susan idea! You could totally do that for cheap!
