Peace Like a River

The kids and I really experienced the power of worship today. We went in the front yard for a hands-on geography lesson. Standing in our front yard facing the road, we figured out which direction was north, which was south, east, and west. We saw the morning sun in the east and discussed where we would see it throughout the day and finally watch it set in the west. It wasn't planned as part of the lesson, but I remembered learning the song that goes "From the rising of the sun to the going down of the same, the name of the Lord shall be praised", complete with hand motions to show the rising and setting of the sun. I taught it to the girls, and standing there in our front yard, Allie, Maggie, and even Penelope raised their hands and praised the Lord. It was an amazing sight!! I wanted to stand there all day and watch those sweet little hands raise in worship!!

Later in the day we went to the grocery store for a "quick" trip. About midway through the trip, Rosemary suddenly got hysterical. I mean, she was red-faced and screaming. When she gets hungry, she goes 0-100 in about 0.3 seconds. So there I was, only halfway through the trip, with a screaming baby that I couldn't do anything for right there in the middle of the store. Just when I felt my blood pressure starting to rise, Maggie started singing, "Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, praise the Lord, praise the Lord!" over and over. The louder Rosemary cried, the louder Maggie sang. :) We just kept right on trucking, praising the Lord the whole way. Hopefully we blessed the other customers instead of just annoying them. :)

We got in the car and I turned Pandora radio to a "quiet times for baby" station, and what should come on but "I've Got Peace Like a River". Rosemary immediately quieted down and listened to her mom and sisters belt out "I've got peace like a river, I've got peace like a river, I've got peace like a river in my soul." I looked in the rearview mirror and saw the sweet faces of my daughters singing about having peace like a river, and I praised God way deep down in my soul.

Worship makes such a difference!
