Star Wars? . . . Really?

This has been a really fun weekend. We've packed a lot into it, which we tend to do. Both Friday night and Saturday night we went to Whistle Stop BBQ Festival, which was a blast. Allie and Maggie enjoyed the inflatables in the kids' area. Brian, Penelope and I enjoyed the BBQ- I think Penelope more than anybody. That girl can eat! Both nights she covered herself in ribs, pork, beans, and chips. It was a sight to see. : )

On Saturday, we drove out to East Limestone for this huge garage/kids books/textbooks/homeschool books sale. I got classic childrens literature for $1 and Scholastic workbooks for $2-$3. On the way there and back we planned out an upcoming trip to McWane Science Center/Oak Mountain State Park in Bham. In between all that, my family and I did something I would never have planned or even guessed we would do. We watched the Star Wars trilogy on Spike TV. They were having a marathon or something, and we didn't just sit down and watch it straight through, so we kept seeing a part of this one and a part of that one. But the reason I was so surprised is because, I thought I hated that kind of thing. I've never sat down and watched any of the Star Wars movies, old or new. They've never appealed to me in the least. So when I sat down to nurse Rosemary and Brian turned it on, I actually thought, well at least I'l be able to get a lot done, because this will be easy to walk away from in a few minutes. I was SOOO wrong. We started with the scene where Anakin competed in the pod races and won his freedom to go and train to be a Jedi. Brian told me the tidbit that Anakin and Padme would be having a child together (Luke Skywalker), and that was weird/interesting/bizarre enough to at least get me watching for more. Then when he explained that Anakin goes to the dark side and becomes Darth Vader, well, I was hooked. I don't know why, but I loved the scene where Anakin was burned and the Dark People or whoever they are, masked him and made him Darth Vader. I cannot wait to see whichever one it is where Luke is grown up and meets his Darth Vader father. I have yet to see that one. Brian and I actually stayed up pretty late watching the drama unfold, but we never got to that one. I want to go out and rent it TODAY.

Who knew Star Wars was so stinkin addicting??! I still haven't seen any of the Indiana Jones movies, (another classic that "everybody has seen"), but I still don't think I would be interested. I don't even want to go there. There's not room in my life for it, now that I've found Star Wars. :)
