Growing God's Girls

I don't think I can describe how much I absolutely, totally, completely, 100% LOVE my life. I feel overwhelmingly blessed and grateful for the privilege of being Mrs. Brian Rodgers and Momma of four amazing little girls. I get asked sometimes how I'm "making it" or how I can handle homeschooling and babies and still stay sane. Of course, if you've been reading, I have my days :), but what abides deep inside me is a sense that this is what God created me to do. This is my calling, my mission, my purpose. These kids weren't born to me by accident. They were given to me by a great and awesome God who numbered the hairs on my head, fashioned my heart, and knew before the foundation of the world that I would be granted this huge and wonderful task, this "good work" of raising girls. It is He who equips me for this work. Lord may I never take this calling lightly or rely on my own strength to carry it out.

God has been laying some things on my heart lately about this business of raising girls. He has given me a sense of vision and purpose with it all. Some things I will keep between me, God, and Brian, at least for now. But I get so excited when I see evidence of God at work in my life that I have to share at least some of it.

Allie and I are in 1 Kings 3 in our reading of the Bible. It's the part where Solomon asks God for wisdom, and God grants it. To go along with the study of Solomon we are reading through Proverbs and praying daily for God to give us wisdom. I am continuing to ask God for particular wisdom in the area of motherhood. He is leading and guiding me in some really cool ways. One is through being a part of a great group of women at church with the same calling. We meet every other Thursday night and share what God is doing in our lives. We've only met twice and I have been so inspired by what some of the other women are doing in their homes. One thing that Melody said brought me to the realization that Allie, my 9 year old, never hears preaching. She goes to two Sunday schools on Sunday mornings, AWANA on Sunday nights, and GA's on Wednesday nights. Those are all great things, but she never hears the Word preached. So we are on the search now for downloadable audio sermons we can listen to at home, in the car, etc. Another inspiration God has given me lately is through a ministry called Above Rubies. (www.aboverubies.org). I get a bimonthly magazine from AR that inspires me with Titus 2 and Proverbs 31 teachings about a woman's role in the home. I find encouragement for raising my kids by biblical standards. And I'm inspired by other moms in the blogosphere who have been given the same purpose. One of my favorites is Michelle at She Looketh Well. (http://shelookethwell.blogspot.com) What an inspiration to be passionate about our homes, our marriages, and our roles as mothers. Reading these things and talking to these women helps me remember that I have a great and high calling as keeper of my home. I am blessed among women. I should view my life that way instead of complaining about not having "me time" or my children being a burden. They are a heritage and a reward.

Heavenly Father, thank You for my precious family. Make me a suitable helpmate for Brian. Remind me that my job is to help him be the best that he can be. Show me how to do that. Give me a love for him that's like Your love for him. Make our home a place where You are loved, honored, worshipped, and served. Fill our home with joy and laughter and dancing and love. Show us how to raise Godly girls, who have a holy reverent fear of the Lord. Give us singlemindedness and purpose. Mark the goal clearly for us. Direct our paths. Bless us with wisdom from above. In Jesus' name, Amen.
