Book Review: Created To Be His Helpmeet

I have been reading the book Created To Be His Helpmeet by Debi Pearl. She and her husband Michael own the ministry No Greater Joy (www.nogreaterjoy.org). I LOVE THIS BOOK. I recommend ALL wives read this book!!! In fact, I might buy a few copies for my closest friends. Of all the marriage/being a wife books I've read, this one is by far the most Scriptural.

Debi Pearl is no joke. She challenges wives to embrace their roles as helpmeets to their husbands and constantly be looking for ways to make his life better, easier, more enjoyable. She asks, "Do you wake each morning ready to make your husband happy and blessed to serve him to the best of your ability- to be his helper? Are you engaged in active goodwill toward your man? This is God's will for you." It seems kind of old school at times because she talks about the importance of looking your best, and fixing him good meals, and letting him have time to rest and relax at the end of the day, etc. But I think that's something that a lot of women have tossed aside because "he doesn't know how tired I am" or "I need a break from the kids at the end of the day", or whatever. We were created to help our husbands, not expect them to help us.  Of course, a man who loves and cherishes his wife will end up helping her in a lot of ways, but the basic idea is that we help them.

She says: "In our modern culture, we women push to accomplish so much outside the home.  Most of these things are not of God. They are just pursuits of vanity to crowd our minds and cloud our spirits and cause us to forget that we were created for the man to whom we are married. . . Get off the phone, lay down the romance novels, turn off the TV, stay off the web, reduce outside visits or women's classes, and focus on putting your time into what your husband is doing and what your children need. That is how you an better meet his needs, and it is the beginning of learning to be an 'heir together with him in the grace of life ' -1 Peter 3:7"

This is a must-read!!
