Sugar Free Life?

So, the yeast is back. It really is a beast. I am now doing two different types of nipple creams, my third round of Diflucan, an herb called Cats Claw that supposedly rids the body of yeast, tons of yogurt, and ungodly amounts of Motrin. Today when I went to Huntsville Compounding to pick up some nipple cream, the pharmacist reminded me that yeast loves to feed on sugar and starches. And then he said words that I could hardly believe: "You should not be eating sugars or starches at all." Dum, dum, DUMMM. . . . . He handed me a list of 71 harmful things that sugar does to your body. I did the walk of shame out of the pharmacy, feeling totally bummed out. I mean, when I think about my diet, it is honestly about 60% sugar. All that is good in my diet, is sugar. All that is happy and wonderful, has sugar. I LOVE sugar.

On the way home I entertained the idea of ridding my diet of sugar to try to win victory in the battle of the yeast. I started thinking of the things I could replace in my diet to make it sugar-free. Which of course, was everything. I mean starting with my morning cup of joe and ending with half the stuff on my dinner plate. I really really reallllly want to continue breastfeeding Rosemary. I know it is best and I actually LOVE knowing that I am giving her the absolute best nutrition. But, it really really realllllly hurts. I mean really. When it's bad, it's really bad. So, the conclusion I came to was this: I will push through this one more time and give it all I've got. I'll do the Diflucan, I'll do the nipple creams, I'll air dry when I can and eat lots of yogurt. But I stop at going sugar-free. Life is hard enough. I cannot imagine how hard it would be without sugar. So if these other remedies don't work, she'll do just fine on formula. I'll be happier. And last I heard, the saying went, "If Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy." So I'll work on keeping Momma happy and letting the kiddoes follow suit. :)

  1. I was fortunate in that we got the yeast under control fairly easily. But, I know others who've been in your shoes. This isn't easy, but you really have been trying so very hard. I'm prould of you. Regardless of how this turns out, you are a great Mommy! I'm sure you already are, but don't forget to try: Prayer!! I will be praying for you too!

    Love you!

  2. I agree with Jennifer. You are a great mommy!! God will help you know when you need to keep pushing or when you need to stop. He will give you a peace about it. Trust Him. : ) He cares for you and Rosemary, and He wants the best for both of you. I'm praying for you right now.

  4. You're an amazing mom! You're like my mom hero :)

Cutting out sugar completely? That guy is totally nuts. I know you guys will get through this, and you're absolutely right - if nothing works, Rosemary will do fine on formula. Much better than having a miserable mommy.

P.S. thanks for the Dairy Queen suggestion - we went there that same evening and got our Bilzzards RIGHT BEFORE they ran out of ice cream!
